Nobody Ever Told Me About Emotional Intelligence.

Know this, my beloved brothers; let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger. James 1:19.

In life, as we grow we are taught many things. As a child, we learn from our parents to respect people, and how to behave. We go to school we are taught an education once we become an adult experience will teach us how to survive. If some of us were fortunate we were taught how to manage money. Whether we use the skills we were taught on how to manage money in a good or bad way some of us were still taught.

“One thing no one has ever taught me or maybe some of you. I was never taught about emotional intelligence. You would think that would be one of the fundamentals of learning”.

In my case, if someone would have told me about emotional intelligence when I was growing up or even taught it in school instead of how to dissect a frog. Things would have turned out a whole lot better for me a whole lot sooner. Now I know what my problem was!

Was anyone aware that emotional intelligence was deliberately not taught to school-aged children in school due to educators and parents thinking children were too young and or too immature to handle the subject?

But, sex education was taught. I guess they figured the children were old enough and mature enough to handle that. How many times have we had sex with someone who had emotional problems and we didn’t know it? Ummm Now I’m thinking, wonder if that made the sex better? OKAY!

Wisdom!

Thank God with age comes wisdom. According to psychologists at A&M University in Texas and the University of Texas at Austin, the adage that with age comes wisdom may ring true.

By the time you reach a certain age, you should have mastered controlling your emotions. Well at least to the point where you’re not flipping the script all the time.

With the wisdom that comes from aging, 58.39% of older people have a good combination of understanding gained by experience accumulated knowledge or learning, and insight and judgment. I am sure I wouldn’t have made it without the blessing of getting older.

Here’s a thought. Due to the lack of emotional intelligence training. Some people didn’t live to become wiser. They might have flipped the script one time too many. Who’s to say!

I’m sure some of you when you were younger were not as equipped at managing your own emotions as you are now. I’m not or can’t be the only one.

If the powers at be, being those who knew about emotional intelligence made it mandatory that each child learned about emotional intelligence in class like they do the alphabet or how to add and subtract, or maybe even in junior high school, or high school.

In my opinion, I could be wrong a lot of things like school shootings, hate, disinformation, lying, trying to control others, and all the things that make people flip the script would not happen. Not saying those things still wouldn’t happen. But maybe not as much.

Let’s break it down.

  1. We know that EQ is better well known as an emotional quotient short for emotional intelligence gives one the ability to manage their emotions in positive ways to relieve stress.
  2. To succeed at school and work.
  3. To communicate effectively.
  4. Be able to achieve career and personal goals.
  5. Building stronger relationships personal or otherwise.

Even though I’m okay today according to me. This eye-opening important bit of information explains a lot of many of my behaviors over the years.

You”ll just don’t know, I was a hot mess for years. They sure didn’t teach us about emotional intelligence when I was coming up. Definitely didn’t teach it when I was in that group home. And they had psychologists on hand, go figure. That sure explains a lot.

Thank God for aging! That God for wisdom!
